John Rutter’s Gloria was composed in 1974 for MasterSingers, the renown choir based in Omaha. It is a celebration of the Nativity.
Like a symphony, the work is divided into three movements – in a fast, slow, fast structure – with melodic themes derived from a traditional Latin Mass – resulting in texts that are exalted, devotional, and jubilant. The music is impactful and direct in style, with the instrumentalists playing an important role as equal partners with the voices.
The concert highlights additional seasonal selections, and includes our traditional Christmas Carol sing-along.
