Joining The Chorale

Auditions

Brandywine Valley Chorale is an auditioned SATB (soprano, alto, tenor, bass) choir. BVC will be hold auditions in early September and early January for singers with strong music reading ability and prior choral experience in all voice parts. To arrange an audition, please complete our Audition Form. You will be notified immediately to make arrangements. For specific questions or requests, contact us.

The elements of the audition include:

  1. Vocalizing up and down your range.
  2. Exercises using tonal memory:
    • Hearing a four-note melody on the piano
    • Then singing it back.
  3. Sight-reading exercises.
  4. Performing a song, aria, or hymn of your choice. Singers are asked to bring an extra copy of the solo for the accompanist.

Volunteers

The Chorale is appreciative of the volunteers behind the scenes who set the stage for success. You do not need to be a singer to become involved. We would welcome help in several arenas:

  • Receptions and hospitality
  • Grant writing
  • Social media
  • Choreography or movement
  • Stage production
  • Fundraising

Expectations for Singers

  1. Sufficiently fluent in music reading — able to learn music independently and not exclusively by ear.
  2. A minimum of two years singing experience — community, school, or church choir that performs a classical style repertoire.
  3. Attend weekly rehearsals during concert season —
    • Winter/Holiday Concert Period (September to December)
    • Spring Concert Period (January to May)
  4. Rehearsal Time — Tuesday evenings (7:30 to 9:30 pm)
  5. Rehearsal Location —
    St. Michael Lutheran Church
    109 East Doe Run Road
    Unionville, Pennsylvania 19375
  6. Attendance Policy — A maximum of two missed rehearsals is allowed during each concert period. Singers who miss more than two rehearsals must meet with the Artistic Director to make sure they are prepared.
  7. Leave of Absence Policy — Singers may be excused in advance from a single concert period due to personal obligations.

  • Whole Season – $180
  • Winter Concert Period – $90
  • Spring Concert Period – $90
