Brandywine Valley Chorale presented the Christmas portion of Messiah by George Frideric Handel including the joyous “Hallelujah” Chorus. This beautiful oratorio, first performed in Dublin in 1742, is among the world’s most consistently performed works and a beloved staple of the Yuletide season. It depicts key events in the life of Jesus Christ in an operatic mix of recitatives, arias, and powerful choruses.
The concert also highlighted the stirring “Magnificat” by composeress Dale Trumbore. Its lyrics are from a contemporary nativity poem by Lynn Ungar — based on Mary’s words of praise and prophecy.
The program featured our traditional holiday sing-alongs and a 14-piece instrumental ensemble.

To celebrate America250, our nation’s upcoming Semiquincentennial, the BVC showcased music from American choral composers! The concert’s featured work, The Hope of Loving by award-winning artist Jake Runestad, explores the concept of love, and how it affects our lives. Additional selections included The Awakening by Joseph M. Martin, a moving composition about the glory of song; Aaron Copland’s rousing Zion’s Walls; and an inspiring rendition of the Battle Hymn of the Republic; plus others. A string quartet and piano accompanied the performance. The concert was a great success.
