First performed in Dublin in 1742, Messiah by George Frideric Handel is among the world’s most consistently performed works and a beloved staple of the Yuletide season. It depicts key events in the life of Jesus Christ in an operatic mix of recitatives, arias, and powerful choruses. Join the BVC as we present the Christmas portion of this beautiful oratorio, including the joyous “Hallelujah” Chorus.
The concert also highlights the stirring “Magnificat” by composeress Dale Trumbore. Its lyrics are from a contemporary nativity poem by Lynn Ungar — based on Mary’s words of praise and prophecy.
The program will feature some holiday sing-alongs and a 14-piece instrumental ensemble.

In celebration of the 250th Semiquincentennial, the BVC will perform musical works from some of the leading American choral composers living today! The featured composition, The Hope of Loving by award-winning artist Jake Runestad, is an inspiring exploration of love, presence, and meaning.
Additional works include Alex Berko’s introspective Limits of Your Longing, the impassioned Measure Me, Sky! (Elaine Hagenberg), and the evocative Fern Hill (John Corigliano), plus others. An instrumental ensemble will accompany the program.
